2019 Lake Leschenaultia WOW Open Water Swim

THE SETTING

Last Sunday ten Manna’s travelled up to the Lake for the first WOW Open Water Swim of the season. Narelle, Glenda, Kathy, Ken, Sue Mac, Wayne, Joel, Deborah, John and Helen who didn’t swim but played a vital role with photographer and spectator duties.

The weather was quite cool and cloudy when we arrived but by the time the swims were on the sun came out with a light breeze to keep the pesky flies at bay. Perfect weather.

THE SWIM

John was first off in the 800m swim to much ribbing from the crowd. Joel, Glenda, Wayne and Ken then took off in the 3.2km event (4 laps of the course).

Finally, the rest of us started in the 1.6m swim. At this stage Deb seriously had 3.2km envy but after one lap she and Narelle were thinking John had the right idea with an 800m dash.

The water was a lovely 20 degrees and everyone came out very pleased with their efforts.

THE RESULTS

800m swim results – John was 4th overall coming in before many swimmers much younger than he.

1600m swim results – Narelle and Cathy came 1st and 2nd in their respective age group and Deborah won closest to her nominated time although she was 6 mins slower than this.

3200m swim results – Joel was 1st in his age group and Glenda came 2nd in hers.

AFTERMATH

We then enjoyed a sumptuous picnic lunch – we may not bring home the swimming prizes but we won in the food stakes.

Ken won a spot prize; a beanie which he wore with pride as if he was still at Bogan Bingo and Glenda won the 13th raffle prize which she has kindly donated back to our next club raffle.

After a very enjoyable morning we all vowed and declared to be back fitter and faster at next year’s event.

Official results can be found on the blue chip timing website.
