President's Prattle - Australia Day 2017

What a great effort by the club for today’s ocean swim. It was a pleasure to be a part of such an enthusiastic group of workers. No doubt our best swim yet with around 190 swimmers hitting the water. The ocean was once again a picture….and just rough enough to remind us it is an “ocean” swim. The teams of workers lead by Wayne, Gerry, Greg, Deb, Ray and Pauline knew what had to be done and just got on and did it. As usual we had a big number of members willingly give their time and energy to whatever tasks the team leaders needed, making for an efficient set-up and clean-up. Special mention to Wayne who has been our Meet Director for many meets now and never slows up….great work. I don’t know about you, but Rod leading the Anthem, is becoming a stirring start to the event.

Good luck now to the many members who are taking on the Busselton Jetty and Rottnest Channel swims. Many have trained solidly and will be well prepared. I think both events will have a record number of Manna’s swimming and supporting. Our Doddi's swims will help. We peaked last Saturday with 44 swimmers enjoying the swim. We are fortunate to have such a good venue to enjoy.

We thank all those who supported the search for “Ken’s cap” . The effort was worth it to see the joy in his face on it’s subsequent return…

Not too far now and our attention will turn to our pool meet in early April. This will be another “all hands on deck” day, as we host a 25m outdoors event for the first time and at a different time of time of the year. Hopefully we will have our first use of the Dolphin timing system we are helping purchase with the other swim clubs and City funding. This will bring a further forward step in our meets. This will also be a bit of a look at what the pool is like with the Nationals being here in April of next year.

Our AGM will be on Wednesday the 15th Feb in the pool clubrooms (not the Pine tree). Please check the suggested changes to our By-laws, as we will be putting these to the meeting. Nominations for the Committee should be lodged with our Secretary Janet prior to this date. Agenda items or notices of motion should also be sent to Janet prior to the meet. As with all our activities we look for a big number to attend. (Some prize wines from today’s swim may make to the event…..this is called incentivising??)

It is a busy but fun “swim- time” of the year, so keep swimming and look after each other.

(If you haven’t yet done so, your membership renewals are due!!)
