President's Prattle - December 2018

Well where has the year gone? Have you achieved your swimming /fitness goals or are you like me and will try again in 2019!

The Doddi’s Dash/Christmas picnic was a huge success once again due mainly to the wonderful organisation by Steve F and his helpers. It was fabulous to see Sarah (who has improved so much) taking out the line honours in the Dash, and I did have lots of fun preparing for the Fashion Parade. A fun day was had by all. This year $454.60 was raised which is going to Dot’s Place which is situated in Country Roads and assists cancer patients.

Eight swimmers tackled the Coogee Christmas 3.4km Swim a week later, which turned out to be quite a fun swim. All now know they are ready for the Busselton Jetty Swim in February! Photos and write up about the swim are on the Club Facebook page.

In January there are two big Open Water Swims being held, the Swim Thru Perth this year will be from Elizabeth Quay to Matilda Bay on Sunday 20th January. There is a choice of a 3.5km or 1.6km swim in the waters of the Swan River with the Jelly Fish. They really aren’t that bad…

Then of course it is the big one for the club, our Australia Day Swim. From what I have read and heard the MAD committee have been working very hard to put this event together. There are choices of: the Alcoa 250m Try It Swim for swimmers aged 8 years and up, as well as 1km, 2km or 4km swims. Entries are now open and even if you aren’t swimming, I am sure Steve will appreciate offers of help on the day.

Masters Swimming WA running three clinics in the near future:

Open Water Swimming Technique clinic at HBF Stadium on Sunday 13th January

Open Water Swimming Technique Clinic (part 2) at UWA Water Sports Complex

Sleep and Performance Seminar at HBF Stadium on Sunday 3rd February.

More information has been posted on our club web page.

The new club shirts and jackets can now be ordered at Hot Klobba which is in Reserve Drive. The embroidery is cheaper if there are 6 shirts being done at the one time so if you aren’t in a hurry you may want to put your order in and wait. (a $10.00 saving).

I have enjoyed swimming with a lot of you in the pool and at the beach throughout the year and look forward to seeing you over the summer season.

On behalf of your club committee I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

Deborah
