President's Prattle - December 2016

Well Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you each have a joyous celebration.

With summer comes the time of “no excuses” for getting back into the water. Both the pool and beach are beautiful at the moment for swimming, and is there a better way to overcome the excesses this festive season always brings. We still have a number of members who are yet to join in our training and/or beach swimming, and it would be great to see many of you back in the swim.

Once again, we give our congratulations to Ken for his nomination by Masters Swimming WA for the 2016 RAC WA State Sports Awards "Official of the Year". The RAC WA Sports Star Awards enable the Western Australian community to recognise excellence in sport and celebrate the achievements of WA sportspeople. This nomination is splendid recognition for the effort Ken has given over a number of years, not just for our club, but for the State body also. A good man to have around us!!

Well done to all those who took part in the MSWA Open Water championships at Fremantle. From Greg’s first swim to the great swimming of Rod for another age-group win, it was a very enjoyable swim. Don’t forget to enter our own Australia Day swim on January 26th. Click Here and get your entry completed. Whether swimming or not, this is a day when the Club will need all hands on deck to assist. Please let Wayne or Gerry know if you will be there to help.

It will be a mixed bag in swimming later in summer as the ocean and pool competitions overlap. Although a tricky training balancing act, the coaches will do their best with the training programs to get each of us up to scratch.

With Christmas breaks at the pool we will have no training on Sunday 25th and Tuesday 27th…..just be aware.

As the year draws to an end, my thanks to the committee and all the members who have helped make this another successful year for the club, as we continue to strive for “Fun, Fitness and Friendship”.

Keep swimming and look after each other.

Steve C

[On behalf of all the Club members, thank you Steve C for doing such a great job at the helm this year.]
