President's Prattle - September 2020

Now Spring is here no doubt many members will start to up their swimming routine. There are opportunities to swim with the club each day from Monday through to Saturdays. I look forward to seeing you either at the pool or at Doddi’s Beach. At the moment if you are swimming at Doddi’s you do have to bring your own hot drink.

Unfortunately, there will be a change to our Australia Day Swim this season. After a lot of thought and deliberation, the Australia Day Swim Committee together with the Management Committee have decided to replace the swim with:

  1. An exciting and fun Australia Day Swim event to be held at Doddi’s Beach for members only. This will be a fun based morning celebrating Australia Day with a variety of swims and brunch after; and

  2. In conjunction with Rockingham Masters, we are hoping to organise a new annual Wow Swim OWS event to be held in alternate years at Mandurah and Rockingham, which will see both clubs work together to share the risk and huge workload that is now required to organise, promote, fund and host an OWS event.

I do want to thank all present and past members who have assisted at our previous Open Water Swim events.

There are a few other exciting events happening to take us through to the end of the year. The first swim event will be the final two days of the Country Correspondence Carnival, which many members have participated in. It is not too late to come along and have fun morning swimming and have a chance at winning some amazing prizes. The next swim is this Sunday 13th September from 8:00-10:00 am, followed a fortnight later on Sunday 27th September from 8.00-10.00am. Captain John is also organising an ‘after swim party’ that will be a lot of fun. Details about this event are out now.

We have a lunch and a dance night planned for October and the annual Doddi’s Dash will be on Saturday 21st November followed by a brunch barbeque. (BYO everything). Of course, the Dash is about a swimming race, but I know there are many members who will be putting more energy into the ‘Fashions on the Foreshore’ component of the day. This year the theme is “F” which reflects our motto: Fitness, Fun & Friendship.

Our XMAS function will be on Sunday 13th December. Venue and format yet to be finalised.

Don’t forget to keep referring to our Website to get updates and more information on upcoming events.

Happy swimming everyone.

Deborah
