President's Prattle - March 2020
Open Water Swimming
Well the Open Water Swimming season is over for the majority of us following the successful Coogee Swim yesterday. It was once again an enjoyable swim in very favourable conditions. Even though we didn’t win any swimming prizes, congratulations to Pauline who won the most fantastic raffle prize. Pauline came second in her age group to ex Mandurah swimmer Pam Walker, so it was most fitting she won the raffle. Results and photos are on the website. Thank you to Ivan and Hazel for the support and photos.
Next weekend is the Port to Pub event with Steve F being the only soloist this year. He will be joined by a team comprising Brett, Greg, Ross and Wayne C assisted by paddlers Bill and Ken. Good luck to all, we look forward to hearing the details of your swims. There is also a small group of members travelling over to support them.
MSWA State Championships
Our next big club event is the upcoming State Swim during the weekend 4th and 5th April. We are keen to have as many members as possible swimming in the event.
Links to the Flyer and to the Online Entry page can be found on the website news. Registrations close on Friday 20th March. Navigating the entry is a bit tricky, so if you need more information/help please contact either John or myself.
If you are not swimming or have some time between swims, we need volunteers to help with the marshalling. This week, we are meeting with the local branch to finalise what our roles will be so then we can put volunteers in place. Thank you to those who have already offered their services.
Don’t forget the Pool session this Sunday at 12.30pm, which will give you the opportunity to fine tune everything you need to know about turns and starts ready for the State Swim.
AGM
Thank you to all the members who attended the recent AGM. It was a very successful night with all positions of the committee filled followed by refreshments. Congratulations to John Cahill who was elected Club Captain and thank you to Jen Rollin-Busby and Debbie Brown who have stepped down from the committee. Also congratulations to all who won prizes for the 2019 year.
Training
Don’t forget the training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the pool are free and start at 6.00 pm. Numbers have increased and sessions have been very enjoyable.
I look forward to catching up with you either at the pool or the beach.
